The closing component of a metal seated gate valve is the gate, which moves perpendicular to the fluid flow direction. Gate valves are designed to operate either fully open or fully closed only,it cannot be used for flow regulation or throttling. The gate features two sealing surfaces. In the most common wedge-type design, the two sealing surfaces form a wedge shape, with the wedge angle varying depending on valve specifications—typically 50' or 2°52' under lower medium temperature conditions. The wedge-shaped gate can be constructed as a single rigid unit, referred to as a solid gate; or as a flexible gate capable of slight elastic deformation, this flexibility enhances manufacturability and compensates for minor deviations in sealing surface angles during machining.
